After several years doing freelance writing on the side, I’ve made the plunge into Substack! Though I’m getting ahead of myself.
My name’s Carlos Miguel del Callar, a working professional based from the Philippines with a knack for video games, nerd culture, history and the occasional politics among other things. One of those “other things” also happens to be writing, which has been a long-time habit ever since school. Thus, aside from my day job, I’ve been doing freelancing work, contributing to outlets as varied as Hardcore Gaming 101, Areo Magazine, Merion West, and Quillette.
So here I am…taking the plunge! Welcome to Ramblings of a Filipino Nerd.
What to expect?
Aside from some republished articles from Areo Magazine (in light of the site’s closure as of November 6, 2023), you’ll find various pieces covering gaming, nerd stuff, commentary on certain issues, and more! On top of that, there may be some personal musings, blogposts, and possibly exclusive content that you’ll see nowhere else.
You could also expect this site to be updated with some frequency, probably as much as twice a week if I could manage. Fingers crossed, in any case.
What about Content?
With or without subscriptions, it’ll all be 100% free, no strings attached. But if you like to support this corner of the net, and since Stripe is as yet unavailable in the Philippines, please feel free to pitch in. Every little bit helps!
With all that said…
As a disclaimer, my writings are on no one’s behalf other than my own. Some of the republished pieces are showing their age, reflecting my views at the time they were written, they will not be edited so as to be preserved for posterity.
On a more personal note, this is bound to be something of a change for me, given my admittedly introverted nature. Still, as the saying goes…nothing ventured, nothing gained!
